
Wright-Patterson AFB in those
days seemed to be a much simpler place. As this photo
shows, the end of runway 23R is at far left, in between
the two skinnier taxiways. The light area below them harbor the
B-52s. That entire section of the base was and still is known
as Area C.

Here's the
last 17th Bomb Wing Commander of the B-52Hs at
Wright-Patterson, Colonel Henry W. Boardman. A great guy
to talk with, but don't get on his wrong side. He was a strong
leader with an easy-going manner. Great combination.

The sign at
the gate for Area C shows the 17th Bomb Wing, with Col.
Boardman commanding. Peace may have been their profession, but
it was done by always being prepared for trouble.
