About the Author

Major R.G. Beavers, the author of Legacy: Genesis of Aviation Greatness, after his tour at Mather AFB, CA, where he taught 2,000 lieutenant student navs their trade.

That tour of duty earned him a Meritorious Service Medal. 

Before they went to fly in the SAC Bombing Competition finals, Beavers' crew had their picture taken. As shows below, they look very focused and preoccupied. They're thinking about the imminently upcoming mission. Beavers is kneeling on front row on farthest left. Since it's a bombing competition, it falls hardest on the Bombardier, and that was Beavers.
